Which senior care comparisons matter most in New York?
In New York the comparisons that matter most follow the state's own lines: an ALR bed versus a SNALR bed (whether dementia care is certified), an ordinary assisted living bed versus an Assisted Living Program bed (whether Medicaid pays for care), and an adult home versus an enriched housing program (round-the-clock supervision or apartment living).
Those distinctions are specific to New York's rules and programs and do not map neatly onto how national websites describe senior care, which is why we compare by certification and program rather than by brochure category.
How should I use these comparisons?
Use them to narrow the certification and payment path first, then use the directory to find which Rochester-area residences hold that certification and how many beds, and only then compare individual buildings on cost, staffing and inspection history.
The assisted living roster can be filtered by county, town and license type.
